Creativity
I think before technology and new media were omnipresent in society, the world was sort of black and white, where things were fairly predicable, jobs were very undemanding, education was operated merely physically, and human interactions were undeviating. That being said, without new media, there were innumerable missed opportunities of creativity that could've and should've been exhibited.
Rather, with the latest advancements of media and technology like Web 2.0, Artificial Intelligence, Chatbots, Virtual/Augmented Reality, and Voice/Sound technology, it's palpable that technology is transforming the human experience and is allowing for more creativity within society. The ability to obtain information and make sense of it is becoming more and more existent in so many different forms that people of all kinds of race, gender, species, disabilities, etc are figuring out new ways to obtain and understand information that was once a rather obstinate process. For example, the way my teachers used to understand and teach me about math, english, and sciences was through a specific method, where I'd have to underline and highlight certain texts and rewrite out certain aspects of the books, etc. Though my teachers felt that was the best overarching way to obtain and understand information, I always felt that I'd be able to understand more through the web and interactive learnings like video, etc. With that latest advancements of technology, I can now learn and understand information greater through the web, youtube, and through new forms of media like AR. Furthermore, those that have certain disabilities whether that's being blind or deaf now have the ability to understand information that was once captured in only a specific type of format. For example, if one is blind they can now use Amazon Alexa to talk and obtain information on just about any subject matter. For those that are deaf, they can visit video sites like youtube and can view the content with closed captioning. Nowadays, the barrier of entry to obtain and understand information is no longer hidden and is accessible to anyone and everyone with access to certain software/hardware.
In addition to obtaining information, new media has allowed us to magnify the way we get in contact and interact with others. Through social media or video chat or sophisticated messenger apps, the ability to meet and collaborate with others is far greater than it has ever been before [1]. Without technology and the enhancements of media, the ability to garner all of this creativity would not exist.
